Why Mount A? I grew up in a small town and so I particularly
enjoy the rural setting of Sackville and the ability to meet so
many people in this place with so many cultural events and extracurricular
activities. The striking scenery of Sackville was also a definite
enthralling aspect to the university. The Swan Pond and the
Waterfowl Park or even just any of the flat expanses around the town
definitely made me appreciate my experience here. The quality
of the academic instruction and the approachability and helpfulness
of the professors were really encouraging and motivating.
Favorite Mount A memory? I think it was a Thursday
or a Friday in my second year and I had just finished a lab exam
and felt alright about it as I talked it over with my friends. It
was a really full evening after that because there was a gathering
of people for a Canadian non-fiction book club at Cranewood (the President’s
house), which always made for lively discussion and interpretation,
and I had to run up Main Street after that to meet my friends on North
Side so we could get to a concert in time. I always appreciate
the potential for epic and random weekends at Mount Allison.
What is your favorite place on campus? The breezeway
between the library and Crabtree, as well as the nearby quad compose
my favourite place on campus. There are some great trees in
that area and it gives a chance to admire the scenery between classes.
Which superpower do you think would be most helpful to have
at Mount A? Sometimes I wish I could duplicate myself just
to take in all the things that are happening. It was challenging
for me to decide precisely what I wanted to study because there are
so many intriguing disciplines and knowledgeable professors. Extracurricular
activities also present a lot of options to seize in your off-time. The
amount of shows, art exhibitions, parties, guest speakers, and other
events at Mount A can be overwhelming in the best possible way. It
would be gratifying to have a way to be able to take it all in while
balancing out studies and social demands.
Knowing you can do anything, what would you like to do? I
would love to be able to write massive amounts of fiction and be constantly
learning and taking in new information wherever I was. I would also
really like to be able to understand people profoundly and help them
get through difficulties in life and possibly achieve this through
providing them parallels in literature that I have come across or
created.
Who do you respect most?
I most respect those who never compromise in expressing their creativity,
in manifesting their devotion to others, or in pursuing the things
that interest them.
What accomplishments are you most proud of?
I really value the experience and warm fuzzy memories from my three
years working at a summer camp. I am really content with having
been able to help create awesome weeks of games and life lessons for
campers over the seasons. I also appreciate being able to study
what interests me (psych, bio, and even classical studies) in a
determined manner.
How did you spend your summer vacation?
At the start, I moved out to Ontario to stay with my sister. I
worked at a pita restaurant, and biked a lot along Lake Ontario.
I also got a lot of good reading in on some Greek history and mythology
as well as some fluffier fiction.
In June, I was offered a job back in my home province of New Brunswick.
I started working at a National Historic site, Beaubears Island,
where I worked on a report and helped out with guided tours from
time to time. Part of the job was working at the Congrès Mondial
Acadien which was a blast. There was some time to read and meet up
with high school friends over the months as well. It was a pretty
well rounded break.
What quality do you most admire in someone?
Being understanding and caring towards others. I also really
value those who pursue a cause that they feel passionate and disciplined
about. Several family members and friends definitely earn my
admiration in this regard.
If you could tell one thing to everyone,
what would it be? Trying to understand why
others do the things they do is an indispensable way of caring for
others, understanding yourself, and understanding your own life.
What do you like most about Mount Allison?
I often revel in how much the small town and campus encompasses
vast opportunities to learn, meet people, and to take in a wide
array of new and exciting events.
What do you want to tell prospective Mount A Students?
Take in as much as you can in your time at Mount A and go after
precisely what interests you here.
